Woman files a $20m lawsuit against KFC for $20 bucket of chicken she ordered

A New York grandmother says she spent $20 for a bucket of chicken at Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) last summer and was disappointed when she didn't get what was advertised. She said:
“I came home and said, “Where’s the chicken?’ ” Anna Wurtzburger said.  “I thought I was going to have a couple of meals.” She claimed that KFC's advert showed a “bucket that’s overflowing with chicken,” which was what she expected.

“I came home and said, “Where’s the chicken?’ ” Anna Wurtzburger said.  “I thought I was going to have a couple of meals.” She claimed that KFC's advert showed a “bucket that’s overflowing with chicken,” which was what she expected.

The company did send the 64-year-old grandmother two gift certificates as an apology, but she sent them back, instead asking for $20 million in damages.

She said she's demanding $20m because “It’s the principal of the matter,” Wurtzburger told CBS Local. “Sometimes you gotta hit people where they feel it.”

Plane carrying European Union officials crashes in Malta, no surviors.

Five people have died after a plane believed to be carrying EU border officials crashed and exploded into a ball of flames in Malta. The light aircraft crashed shortly after taking-off from the runway at Malta Airport in Luqa at around 5.30am on Monday.

No one aboard the flight, which was heading for Misrata in Libya, is thought to have survived.
One witness told the Times of Malta how they saw the plane take-off and rise before it tipped onto its right side 'and went straight down into the ground.'

Emergency services are on the scene and rescuers are searching the burning wreckage for any survivors.

Former President Jonathan Reacts To Reports Of FG Probing His Alleged Link To Niger Delta Avengers

/2016/08/former-president-jonathan-reacts-to.html

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has reacted to reports that himself and his wife Patience, have links to the Niger Delta Avengers. In a statement released by his media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, Jonathan‎ advised newspapers to stop reporting such news that are baseless. The former President said people who may have scores to settle with him are now feeling frustrated by the fact that his national and international profile has continued to rise. Read the statement below...

Our attention has been drawn to two stories entitled “report links Jonathan to Niger Delta Avengers” and “FG probes Jonathan over N/Delta bombings’ published in some newspapers, of Thursday, August 18, 2016, with the claim that some intelligence reports had linked Jonathan to the renewed militancy in the Niger Delta.

We obviously would have ignored the allegation, having responded recently to the exact same fabrication peddled by a shady militant group, but for the new dimension of bringing in the authorities, while hiding under the often-abused journalism latitude of quoting nebulous sources.

Firstly, we note that there were similarities in the stories published same day by the newspapers that are too striking to pass the test of the normal newsroom process of diligent reporting and independent investigation. We are convinced that such clear coincidences are only permissible in situations where general statements are issued, but not on matters of intelligence/security reports which do not fly into newsrooms as press releases.

We are also concerned that the stories did not differ in content and substance from the trite allegations earlier made by the so- called Reformed Niger Delta Avengers over the same lies of linking Jonathan to the militants. For instance, we are amazed that newspapers would be quick to report that the intelligence gathering was said to be a confirmation of a similar claim by the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND”, even without subjecting such frivolity to any ethical interrogation.‎ From what we know about intelligence gathering, there is no responsible government agency that would rush, as claimed in the stories, to adopt the accusations of a questionable rebellious organization as its own findings, without applying the professional processes of rigour and due diligence.

It is sad that the publications wore the cloak of deceit from same misguided characters that are hell-bent on pulling down the former President, despite his clear record of diligent service to his country and long standing commitment to the good of society. There is no doubt that there exist such people who may have scores to settle with the former President but are now feeling frustrated by the fact that his national and international profile has continued to rise, despite their recourse to less- muck- raking character assassination. Such people will stop at nothing to continue to throw obstacles, albeit futilely, on his path.

We are aware that the same people approached other well-meaning newspapers with the same false information, but they were wise to turn it down on account of its absurdity. Our media houses should then be careful not to make the country a laughing stock by being hoodwinked into passing off the perverted voices of irritant groups as that of our well respected official security authorities.

Apart from toying with the serious issue of libel, those newspapers lending themselves to be so cheaply used by miscreants, are also doing gross disservice to our collective good and the image of the country.”

APC not fit to rule, Nigeria may explode – MakindePrelate Sunday O

A former Prelate of Methodist Church of Nigeria, Dr. Sunday Ola Makinde, Monday, said that the All Progressive Congress (APC) administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari is not fit to rule the country.

/2016/08/apc-not-fit-to-rule-nigeria-may-explode.html
Prelate Sunday Ola Makinde
The cleric maintained that except stringent measures were taken, the country may explode because of the current biting economic hardship. Makinde told Journalists during the inaugural meeting of retired Christian leaders of major denominations in Nigeria facilitated by El-Rehoboth Global Leadership Foundation, in Abuja. “The APC is part of the corruption in the country. They are not fit to be there, they must handle the issue of padding very carefully. We are sitting on a keg of gun powder. The day it will explode, it will consume us. So many graduates are not employed. Unemployed people are the people behind the militancy in the Niger Delta region. “I want to warn Christians in the National Assembly. They should be careful, they should not take the issue of Sharia law and the grazing bill in the National Assembly lightly. Nobody can acquire my land. Northerners cannot acquire my land to graze their cattle. Let them go and graze in their own part of the country,” he stated. The cleric, popularly called Prelate Emeritus also advised the Federal Government and the ruling APC to be fair in their fight against corruption.

Wole Soyinka visits President Buhari at the Villa

http://mrsnowgy.blogspot.com/2016/08/wole-soyinka-visits-president-buhari.html

It was reported that Professor Wole Soyinka arrived about 11:00am local time and went straight to the president’s office. Speaking with the journalists after the meeting professor said he had come to see the president on some national, international and general matters, promising to organize a press conference later.
He said: “I will be holding a press conference in about a week. You can ask me any question then, but now, please I will just like to get away.”
The literary icon had last month voiced his support for President Buhari’s fight against corruption, with a call for the imprisonment of corrupt politicians to serve as deterrent to others.
We are still waiting to here what the outcome of the meeting will be.

'Why I was invited by EFCC' - Doyin Okupe

'Why I was invited by EFCC' - Doyin Okupe

 http://mrsnowgy.blogspot.com/2016/07/why-i-was-invited-by-efcc-doyin-okupe.html

Former spokesperson to ex President Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe who was recently invited for questioning by EFFC, took to his Facebook wall to explain his case with the antigraft agency. Below is what he wrote;
The facts of my case with efcc. In my interactions with efcc I have been asked to explain 3 things only so far. 1. Why I received N50m from the Fmr NSA, at the onset of my appointment, and what I used it for. 2. Why I was being paid N10m monthly by the ONSA. 3. Why I received another N50m from the NSA in October 2014.
These are the ONLY subject of interrogation with the commission so far. My explanations. 1. The initial N50m was approved by the President to be paid to me from His Security vote. N10m was to furnish my rented living apartment and another N10m for my office. The balance N30m was approved as take off grant. 2. The N10m I received from the ONSA monthly was to run my office, pay salaries of staffs, including overheads, pay expenses for our numerous press conferences, pay for publications in newspapers, magazines, local and foreign, television programs, bulletins, and media consultants who assist and facilitate our work. I had about 23 staff, 11 were graduates out of which 5 were masters degrees holders. Details were submitted to efcc. 3. The second N50m was approved again by Mr President when I reported to him that the monthly allowance has been cut from N10m to N5m and that I was no longer in position to keep running a 1hr NTA network program called INSIGHT which was aired 9-10am every Friday. We paid NTA about N1.2m monthly for airtime. The lead presenter on Insight earned N400,000 and the second presenter earned N200,000. Total N600,000. We paid for tapes and Editting per program. Besides we also pay honorarium for guests either directly or inform of hotel bills for those outside Abuja, or transportation. This cost averagely N500,000 weekly or about N 2m monthly. All in all we spend about N4m monthly on the program. Mr President promised to help with the expenses. About a few months later when we had incurred some debts the NSA sent me this N50m which was to cover the cost of the program for 12 months(12×N4m=N48m) News paper Trial I saw strange figures like N 162m fraud, 85m fraud etc. Also mention was made of dubious payments of N13m, N65m from contracts supposedly obtained from chachanga LGA in Niger state. The Fact. My company Romix soilfix was one of the over 20 construction companies who were duly awarded contracts for rural roads some 5yrs ago by the Niger state govt. Due to lack of funds contractors were paid irregularly making the job to drag. The job is still on going. The relationship of this to my service as snr special assistant to President is still not clear. My Health status. I confided in the officers of the commission about my health situation for them to understand why where and how I sleep was important to my overall well being. Without clearance or authorisation by me this information was revealed to the media. I woke up to hear it on radio broadcast nationwide and was published in many newspapers. This is a sad development and a definite breach of the confidence I reposed on the commission as an institution of government. I was born with sinus bradycadia, a non disease based slowness of the heart. It precluded me from vigorous exercise from childhood but I have by God's Grace been able to live a normal and active life. With age the slowness grew worse and life threatening. I sought medical help and went through a procedure at the Arrhythmia cardiac Research center in Atlanta, where this defect was corrected. Its just a year ago and I am still under satellite monitor from the USA. This is what I revealed to the efcc and they made it a public issue. I have been in public service in more than 20years, because of my pedigree, I have by deliberate policy avoided anything that will bring shame to me, my name and family. In spite of my high level involvement in politics and government, I have never done directly or indirectly any federal government contracts. In the whole of this world I have only two house. One in Lagos and another in my home town. I have no house elsewhere including Abuja. It us a pity that the situation in the country is so bad that everybody believes that there are no men with honour in politics or government. It is not true. I have submitted all my personal and company accounts to efcc. I have nothing to hide. I am proud of who I am and how far the Lord has taken me. My present travails and trial will become a good testimony for me and my family in Jesus Name.

"I want more than one round of sex"- Lagos housewife says

"I want more than one round of sex"- Lagos housewife says

A housewife in Lagos state, Afusat Simpa, says she is tired of her 51 year old husband, Mohammed Simpa who cannot go beyond one round of sex. Speaking to The Sun, Afusat says her husband's inability to satisfy her sexually has caused them to have constant quarrels. According to her, she expects him to go three rounds whenever they have sex.

“I expect my husband to be able to take me to orgasm whenever I wish to make love to him. But no, that is not the case; instead he would stop at one round breathing as if he just climbed a mountain. It is unacceptable. But I understand his predicament,” she said.
The father of four attributed his partial impotency to an accident he sustained in 2003 while working at a pharmaceutical company some years ago. According to him, he was injured above his pelvis and was operated upon. The operation from the injury he claimed affected his performance as a man.
“That day, I was on morning shift, to close work around 2pm. My supervisor, Wilson Oyedele, who was on afternoon shift that day delayed me and asked me to work with the people on afternoon shift because there were few people working on afternoon shift”, he stated. I was told to work from 2pm and close by 5pm,” he continued.
Adding:
"That day loading started around 5pm and the gate to the warehouse was faulty to the extent that we used plank to suspend it when we open and close it. I was in a hurry to go home because I did not inform my family that I would be coming back late from work. The boy offloading was too slow for my liking so I went to assist him, in the process I was hit by the bad gate. In a place of work when an employee gets injured, they compensate them , but they did not do that, I wrote a letter to management while I was working there but my supervisor said that I am still working with them and I want them to compensate me.
He told them to put my name in the retrenchment list in 2005. When I went back to work on the 20th of June, after four months they released the retrenchment list and told me that my service was no longer needed, I went to meet them and they said that they wanted to reduce the number of staff.”
Simpa said effort to get the hospital remove the iron attached to his body has been futile since the hospital has not had any communication from Glaxosmithkline to commence treatment on him. Therefore, he resorted to taking painkillers and self-medication to survive while waiting for the company.
“I have been to hospital but they refused to treat me. Even the human resource officer that no longer works there told me that if I am not given a letter, I would not be treated. I even went to meet the doctor that operated on me at LUTH, but he told me to pay N5,000 before he would attend to me or recommend drugs that I would take. What I have been doing since then is to engage in one job or another then use the money to buy Ampiclox , Vitamin C, Panadol and pain relieving drugs to relieve the pains.”
Afusat says she takes solace in the fact that she has had all her children
“I take solace in the fact that I already had four children before the incident. If not so, I would not have taken it easy with him. How can a man not have strength to do more than one round. It is not good. If he finishes one round he would be looking for sleep to regain strength. Several times, I have complained, even got angry with him despite knowing what happened to him. Before the accident, he was agile and I was always praying that no woman should have sex with him because he knows how to satisfy a woman. She says she has tried all she could to improve her husband’s condition. She has introduced him to local herb popularly called ‘Afato’
“As a man of peace, he would console me and plead with me that things will improve. I have tried to help him improve it. Sometimes I would buy him drinks or tell him not to work much, yet it would always resolve to the same thing,” she stated

They will pay'- Furious Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan vows revenge on military coup plotters

Five army generals and 29 colonels have been arrested following the attempted military coup in Turkey last night where at least 90 people were killed. Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has vowed to deal with those behind the failed coup.
In a speech at Istanbul airport, Mr Erdoğan insisted his government remains in charge and has denounced the coup attempt as an "act of treason"
"What is being perpetrated is a treason and a rebellion. They will pay a heavy price."
"They have pointed the people's guns against the people. The president, whom 52 percent of the people brought to power, is in charge. This government brought to power by the people, is in charge. They won't succeed as long as we stand against them by risking everything."
Adding to the top Military men arrested, more than 1,500 soldiers have also been arrested after army factions used tanks and helicopters to cause “a bloodbath on the streets”, killing dozens of innocent civilians.
President Erdogan was in the south-west holiday resort of Marmaris at the time of the attempted coup where he made a televised address, via his mobile phone, urging people to take to the streets to oppose the Military uprising.
He then flew on to Istanbul, saying Marmaris had been bombed after he left.

#TurkeyCoupAttempt: 60 killed & 754 Detained in Military Uprising branded “treason” by President Erdogan

On Friday, a faction of the Turkish military- branded as the “Peace at Home Movement”, launched a coup attempt aimed at toppling President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government.
The coup leaders, who claim to speak for the entire Turkish Armed Forces, said they have done so in the name of protecting democracy — despite the fact that Erdogan and his party were democratically elected. “Turkish Armed Forces have completely taken over the administration of the country to reinstate constitutional order, human rights and freedom,” the statement said.

Since the fight broke out, the state-run news agency Andalou agency reports that Turkish authorities have detained 754 members of the armed forces after the coup attempt that used tanks and attack helicopters to try to overthrow the government. They also report that an official in the president’s office has put the number of people killed at 60 people.
In his presidential address, Erdogan had repeatedly urged his supporters to take to the streets to help put down the coup attempt, which he said had been carried out by a faction of the armed forces loyal to his arch foe, US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen. Some attacked a group of pro-coup soldiers who had surrendered on an Istanbul bridge before police intervened to rescue them. Breaking News: Turkish military has taken over because of suspected coup

Breaking News: Turkish military has taken over because of suspected coup

The Turkish military has taken over the government and imposed martial law, according to an announcement read by an anchor on the Turkish state broadcaster TRT. The statement was made on behalf of the "Peace in the Nation" council, the announcer said. "The political administration that has lost all legitimacy has been forced to withdraw," the anchor said. There was no independent verification of the claim.
here is no independent verification of either claim and it is unclear who is in charge in Turkey.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told reporters in Moscow that he has not been given reports about what is going on. "I don't have any details. I hope there will be peace, stability and continuity in Turkey," he said.
A report from the U.S. Embassy in Ankara said military-appearing jets had been flying low over the city and Istanbul for about an hour.
One tweet showed a military jet flying extremely low over the capital Ankara.
