They will pay'- Furious Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan vows revenge on military coup plotters

They will pay'- Furious Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan vows revenge on military coup plotters

Five army generals and 29 colonels have been arrested following the attempted military coup in Turkey last night where at least 90 people were killed. Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has vowed to deal with those behind the failed coup.
In a speech at Istanbul airport, Mr Erdoğan insisted his government remains in charge and has denounced the coup attempt as an "act of treason"
"What is being perpetrated is a treason and a rebellion. They will pay a heavy price."
"They have pointed the people's guns against the people. The president, whom 52 percent of the people brought to power, is in charge. This government brought to power by the people, is in charge. They won't succeed as long as we stand against them by risking everything."
Adding to the top Military men arrested, more than 1,500 soldiers have also been arrested after army factions used tanks and helicopters to cause “a bloodbath on the streets”, killing dozens of innocent civilians.
President Erdogan was in the south-west holiday resort of Marmaris at the time of the attempted coup where he made a televised address, via his mobile phone, urging people to take to the streets to oppose the Military uprising.
He then flew on to Istanbul, saying Marmaris had been bombed after he left.

#TurkeyCoupAttempt: 60 killed & 754 Detained in Military Uprising branded “treason” by President Erdogan

On Friday, a faction of the Turkish military- branded as the “Peace at Home Movement”, launched a coup attempt aimed at toppling President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government.
The coup leaders, who claim to speak for the entire Turkish Armed Forces, said they have done so in the name of protecting democracy — despite the fact that Erdogan and his party were democratically elected. “Turkish Armed Forces have completely taken over the administration of the country to reinstate constitutional order, human rights and freedom,” the statement said.

Since the fight broke out, the state-run news agency Andalou agency reports that Turkish authorities have detained 754 members of the armed forces after the coup attempt that used tanks and attack helicopters to try to overthrow the government. They also report that an official in the president’s office has put the number of people killed at 60 people.
In his presidential address, Erdogan had repeatedly urged his supporters to take to the streets to help put down the coup attempt, which he said had been carried out by a faction of the armed forces loyal to his arch foe, US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen. Some attacked a group of pro-coup soldiers who had surrendered on an Istanbul bridge before police intervened to rescue them. Breaking News: Turkish military has taken over because of suspected coup

The Turkish military has taken over the government and imposed martial law, according to an announcement read by an anchor on the Turkish state broadcaster TRT. The statement was made on behalf of the "Peace in the Nation" council, the announcer said. "The political administration that has lost all legitimacy has been forced to withdraw," the anchor said. There was no independent verification of the claim.
here is no independent verification of either claim and it is unclear who is in charge in Turkey.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told reporters in Moscow that he has not been given reports about what is going on. "I don't have any details. I hope there will be peace, stability and continuity in Turkey," he said.
A report from the U.S. Embassy in Ankara said military-appearing jets had been flying low over the city and Istanbul for about an hour.
One tweet showed a military jet flying extremely low over the capital Ankara.
