MrsnowgysSport : Nigeria's Divine Oduduru Comes 7th In Semi-final Heat, Misses Out On 200m Final Race

Ejowvokoghene Divine Oduduru, Nigeria's fastest man missed out on a spot at the 200m finals after coming 7th at the semi-finals heat early this morning at Rio 2016.

In his semi-final heat, Usain Bolt, Andre Gasse and Adam Gemili finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively with a time of 19.78secs, 19.80secs and 20.08 secs respectively while Oduduru, Nigeria's only hope at this event finished 7th with a time of 20.59 seconds.

Nigeria's Oduduru wowed Nigerians when he qualified for the semi-final of the Men’s 200m heat of the Rio 2016 Olympics, finishing second behind Usain Bolt. I guessed he lost concentration or the hype got to him.

Mrsnowgys Sport: Mikel Obi vows not to go Back To Chelsea Without An Olympic Gold Medal

/2016/08/mikel-obi-vows-not-to-go-back-to.html

The captain of the Nigerian Dream Team VI and Chelsea star player, John Obi Mikel, has revealed that he does not want to return to his club without an Olympic Games gold medal, and vowed to delay his return to his EPL club side after helping Nigeria to reach men’s football semi-final against Germany in Sao Paulo on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old Obi, who scored the opener in the 2-0 quarterfinal win over Denmark in Salvador on Aug. 13, vowed that he was determined to have the Games gold to declare in his luggage.
“We are ready to die to wrestle the Olympic Gold. I hope to go back to Chelsea as the Olympic champion. That is my aim. “I came out here to do my best to help the team with the gold medal. That has always been my objective. It’s my aim and the players all want the same.
When you have a group of players all wanting to achieve the same thing, hopefully it will go well at the end. “Hopefully, the semi-final will go well on Wednesday and then we will be in the final and win the gold medal," he said. Mikel reckons that his team has already defied the odds in reaching the last four.
“It was a bit frustrating coming down here, but while we were in Atlanta we knew that we had a good shot at getting to the final or winning the tournament. “With the problems we have had getting to this stage, it is just absolutely amazing and we just have to keep going," he added.
Meanwhile, Coach Samson Siasia said he was confident that his boys would deliver. “The dream is a gold medal. This vital possession I want. I know all my boys want this as well.
George Aluo, the Sports Editor of the Sun Newspaper, in Brazil covering the Games, said; “I am confident the Dream Team will prevail. They have Olympic Games’ soccer pedigree. That is what has seen them through to this stage.
“I have seen that Nigerian spirit of rising to occasion when a challenge presents itself, especially the many obstacles that have dogged their getting to this stage. They are fired up now. They have a way of dismantling big soccer nations. “I see a Nigeria-Brazil finals and it will be a good advertisement for World football,’’

Mrsnowgys Sport: Rio Olympics Table As It Stands

Predictably, the US is running away with this one having garnered a total of 75 medals to top the table. While first place is not in dispute, the battle for second place rages on between Britain and China with 41 and 46 medals respectively. Britain tops China by virtue of having one more gold medal than the Asian country's 15. Kenya is the highest ranked African country on the list with five medals, South Africa has seven medal but only one gold compared to Kenya's two.
Estonia, Krygystan, Morocco, Portugal, Tunisia and the UAE all bring up the rear with one bronze medal each. Nigeria is yet to win a medal at the tournament and as such, doesn't make the list.

Phelps has competed in five Olympic Games but did not medal back in 2000 while swimming in Sydney.
Of the 28 medals Phelps has won, 23 are gold. Only 37 countries have taken home more medals.
'Between now and London, I was so much more emotional during these Games, I think that showed at times on camera,' said Phelps.
'That's the difference. Because I knew this was the last time. I knew this was the last race that I ever had, the last Olympics that I ever had. And everything just really hit hard.'
