SEXUAL ABUSE/RAPE CONSEQUENCES
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is most commonly found in Survivors of sexual assault. They show varying amount of anxiety, stress or fear, known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Substance Abuse habit may appear in many victims of sexual abuse as alcohol or other substances. This is done in an attempt to relieve their emotional suffering.
Self-Harm / Self-Injury is a dangerous problems found in many other victims. It is found with Deliberate self-harm, or self-injury. Stockholm Syndrome is a kind of victim’s emotional “bonding” with their abuser. This develops very subconsciously and on an involuntary basis. Depression arises from emotional and psychological reactions that victims of rape and sexual assault. This is one of the most common reaction and subside soon.
Sexually Transmitted Infections can spread via sexual assault like HIV – AIDS. Many other blood born or body secretions based diseases also have a high chance to spread to the victim. Pregnancy is a great concern if you were recently raped. If the rape happened a long time ago, you may have concerns about a pregnancy that resulted from the attack.
Flashbacks – this occurs when memories of past traumas like rape feel as if they are taking place in the current moment. Dissociative Identity Disorder is a major problem and this is a possible long-term effects of childhood sexual abuse. Suicide thoughts are very common after sexual assault and if you are currently thinking about suicide, or know someone who is, please reach out for help.
Body Memories occurs when the stress of the memories of the abuse experienced by an individual take the form of physical problems. This cannot be explained by the usual means and a terrible situation. Eating Disorders occurs after sexual assault and this is often use food and the control of food as an attempt to deal with or compensate for negative feelings and emotions.
Sleep Disorders are very common in sleep victims as experienced by, bad dreams sleep disturbances and disorders. Military Sexual Trauma is a common technical term that refers to the psychological trauma experienced by military service members. This is occurs as a result of sexual assault or sexual harassment.
Borderline Personality Disorder and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) seen in many after rapes. Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), previously referred to as multiple personality disorder (MPD) in which two or more separate and distinct identities (or personalities) control an individual’s behavior at different times. Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Assault often have long term effects on survivors of childhood sexual assault and/or abuse.
MANAGEMENT OF SEXUAL ABUSE EFFECTS
First and most important things is that, every healing process takes time. One should take measures of safety and attention to self-care. A victim can do Small activities that bring peace or joy, such as practicing meditation once a day, painting or cooking. A supportive person must guide and motivate victim for all this. Each person will heal according to his or her own methods and own time. Individual counselling and supportive therapies are best ways to recover fast from mental trauma.
